World premiere recording of Abou-Bakr Khairat's complete Suite Folklorique, op. 25 no. 1 & 2 featured on Amira's new CD.

Abou-Bakr Khaïrat was one of the first Egyptian composers of the 20th century writing classical music. His compositions are written in a romantic idiom, combining Egyptian traditional elements with Western music. He sometimes drew on melodies by the early 20th century Egyptian composer, Sayed Darwish, as is heard in the first movement of this Suite Folklorique, ‘Taktouka’.

Amira Fouad recently met with the composer’s nephew, the distinguished composer and accomplished pianist, Omar Khaïrat following one of his brilliant concerts at The Cairo Opera House. Photo below
